Debt Help-Starting Out
Think you have debt problems or need debt help? You are not alone! Trying to make ends meet when your pay is not enough can be an endless struggle. Feeding your family, keeping the house and car payments current, and many other needs can leave you feeling a despair that seems endless.
Debt issues will not disappear on their own. You must be sincere and committed if you really wish to regain control of your finances. Depending on the seriousness of your problem, you can work this issue out, or ignore it, and watch it emerge as a consuming stress factor in your life, and that of your loved ones.
To begin the debt-free way of life, you must start by consolidating all your bills. This is not a professional debt consolidation, but rather an attempt by you to organize all your credit card bills, loans, financing schemes, or anything you pay out monthly. organize these amounts in a neat file.
For each debt, include the following details, you may have others, but the idea is to have your information readily available and in one central place:
- Type of loan
- Amount of loan – principal and outstanding balance
- Financial institution and/or contract details
- Account/Reference numbers
- Location of signed loan agreement paperwork (lender, bank safe deposit box, home, etc.)
Once organized, place the details of each loan in a manila folder, or something similar. Try to organize this so you can find everything in one easy step, one location, keeping it quick and simple for when you need to reference this information.
Prioritize these debts from urgent to lesser importance. Mortgage payments, rent or over due bills that threaten to leave you living on the streets require immediate attention. You can’t get anything else accomplished if you don’t have a roof over your head, right? Next, prioritize your basic needs; gas, water, electricity and food.
Not so urgent debts, although just as important to pay back, are family loans, health benefits (but not the premiums), or anything else not life threatening.
Debt help can be a matter of staying focused. Beginning with these simple steps will give you some semblance of structure. Stay organized, taking small steps in the beginning, but don’t stray. You will be able to work your way to debt freedom before you know it!
